For couples who travel
Couples travel journal prompts to write before you go.
Some questions are easier to answer on paper first. Each of you writes privately before the trip, then you bring whatever you choose to share to a quiet evening away. These are the prompts couples write with in the first part of the Sojourn journey.
Who you are together
Write your own answers first. Share only what you're ready to.
- 1When you are at your best in this relationship, what qualities are actually present? Name them plainly — without inflation, without disclaimer.
- 2What is one thing you genuinely love about who you are inside this relationship?
- 3There is a version of you that exists only inside this relationship — only with this person. Describe them. What does this love make possible in you?
- 4Name one piece of growth you have already done — and have not fully given yourself credit for.
- 5If your partner could understand only one thing about you — the single most important sentence — what would it be?
- 6Picture a version of this relationship where you feel deeply, quietly secure. What is different about your body, your tone, the things you stop doing?
- 7What is one thing you have been hinting at instead of asking for? Write the direct sentence here, in plain words.
Where you come from
- 8How did the adults in your home show care — touch, words, food, provision, presence, absence? Which of those carried the most weight for you?
- 9Who in your early life saw you most clearly — even if it wasn't a parent? What did that person mirror back to you that you have carried since?

How to use them
- Write separately, at home, a week or two before you leave.
- Pick one prompt each to share on the trip - you decide what stays private.
- When your partner shares, listen first; respond only after "is there more?"
- Reread your own answers on the last night away and notice what shifted.
Questions people ask
What are good journal prompts for couples?
Prompts that ask each of you to describe yourselves at your best, what you need, and what you haven't said out loud yet. Writing first and sharing second gives quieter partners room to think.
Do we have to share everything we write?
No. Write privately and share only what you choose. The writing is useful on its own; the conversation is a bonus.
Is this couples therapy?
No. These are reflection prompts for a trip. Sojourn is a guided reflection companion, not therapy. If your relationship is in a hard place, a licensed professional can help.
These questions come from Sojourn, a guided journey for before you go, while you're there and after you're home - for couples and solo travelers. It's a reflection companion, not therapy.
